Summer 2024 Family Bike Ride

Glacken Park; Cambridge  

Join us for the 4th Annual Summer Family Bike Ride!    Featuring community, a mostly car free curated ride on protected bike lanes and the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway, ice cream, face painting, bubbles, robot activities from Robo Hub, rock painting, a fun playground destination at Filippello Park which has a brand new splash pad (bring your kids' water clothes) and the Family Bike Ride collection of outdoor play equipment.

Parents must accompany children at all times.

There is no fee to register, event is open to public, donations are encouraged to support Family Bike Ride operations.   We are a parent organized group and the ride has expenses of permits, ice cream, permits, insurance, safety equipment, graphics, play equipment, and more.   We receive some support from sponsors but rely on participant financial support as well.

Schedule:

9:30AM Gather at Glacken Playground.   There will be no portable restroom for our brief time at the start location, so make sure to take care of business before leaving home.   If there are organized sports happening at Glacken fields, we will corral people at nearby green fields on Huron Ave so we don't overwhelm Glacken.   Come early if your child wants to play at Glacken.

9:50AM Remarks 

10:00AM The ride is a safe 2 mile ride on protected bike lanes and the Watertown-Cambridge GreenwayWe will marshal the 2 auto crossings and setup a temp bike lane on the east side Arlington St.    

Please ride slow, yield to pedestrians, stay to the right, give space to other riders, pass on the left.    Parents please coach your kids in these rules.    

10:30AM to whenever play at Filippello Park on the fun play structures, splash pad (bring water clothes) and with our own play equipment.   Plus face painting, rock painting, bubbles and robot activities from Robo Hub.   The city restroom located near the splash pad will be open.   

11:15AM eat ice cream purchased from Moozy's (please indicate your family's dietary concerns/allergens on your registration-we will make sure there is something frozen for you)

There is no group ride back, families depart on their own.
