Winter Family Bike Ride 

Saturday January 27th, 2024 @ Noon

Gather at: Picnic Grove at Cambridge Crossing  (219 Jacobs St; Cambridge MA)  

(You can use the Somerville Community Path and continue on Cambridge Crossing Path to get there)

Join us for the 1st Winter Family Bike Ride!  This season, we will be watching the weather forecast and selecting a Saturday or Sunday between January and March with a high temperature and good ground conditions for a We have picked a date!   It will be a group winter ride from Cambridge Crossing to Menino Park in Charlestown.    Parents must accompany children at all times.

There is no fee to register, event is open to public, donations are encouraged to support Family Bike Ride operations.   We are a parent organized group with expenses!

Schedule:

Before event/during gathering time, you may wish to grab lunch at nearby restaurants, such as Cafe Beatrice, Tenoch, or Tatte.

12:00PM Gather, have hot chocolate, order from nearby restaurants, hang out

12:40PM-1:00PM The ride is a safe 2.3 mile ride through Cambridge Crossing and the Harborwalk in Charlestown with a destination of Menino Park in Charlestown.   There are only a few auto crossings, and we will have volunteer marshals posted at those locations.    Please ride slow, yield to pedestrians, stay to the right, give space to other riders, pass on the left.    Parents please coach your kids in these rules.    

1:00PM to whenever play at the Menino Park.  For this ride we will bring whatever Family Bike Ride outdoor play equipment we can transport in our bikes, when you register you can volunteer to transport some if you have some capacity in your cargo bike.    There are bathrooms at Spaulding Hospital adjacent to the park, and also a cafeteria there if your family wants to take a break to warm up.   

There is no group ride back, families depart on their own.   If you are hungry or thirsty after you may wish to enjoy the family friendly restaurants of Charlestown such as The Anchor, Brewer's Fork, Sorelle, or Blackmoor or take a free tour of the USS Constitution and USS Cassin Young.
