This event was changed to the Spring Ride.   But we hope to do it in August if CPX opens by then.

In association with Somerville Bicycle Committee and Friends of the Community Path, we present, in celebration of the opening of the Community Path Extension (CPX):

Spring CPX Family Bike Ride

Sunday May 14th, 2023, 9:30AM, meet at Davis Square

(rain date Sunday May 21)

Start Point: L Shaped Municipal Parking Lot adjacent to the former Rite Aid at 393 Highland Ave in Davis Square, which is on the Somerville Community Path.

Event is subject to change, rescheduling etc depending on what is happening with the CPX opening date.   If CPX is delayed we may do an alternate ride this date and do a bonus CPX ride later or we may cancel and reschedule.    Hopefully we will have more info on CPX opening in the coming weeks!

RSVP on facebook event page to help us estimate count.

Bring your kid bikes, grown up bikes, cargo bikes, bike trailers, tandem bikes, bikes with kid seats, etc for our Spring CPX Family Bike Ride.   A chance to meetup with other families in the area who love to bike, celebrate Spring, check out the Community Path Extension, get Mother's Day off to a fun start with quality time with your children (or send a loved one to this event with your kids and have some me time at home...)

Rough schedule, subject to change:

9:30AM-9:50AM Gathering time

9:50AM-10:00AM Remarks

10:00AM-10:45AM The ride is a safe ride along the Somerville Community Path.   Crossings will be marshalled by volunteers.    Please ride slow, yield to pedestrians, stay to the right and for the narrow Boston portion, ride single file, CPX is narrow.   Parents please coach your kids in these rules.

This is a longer ride than we normally do over 4 miles vs 2-3 , though it will be slow due to the volume of people and the narrowness of CPX, so self propelled riders will probably not tire out.   But feel free to join us at any point along the route.

10:45AM-12:00PM Play at Paul Revere Playground.   There is a playground, large fields and we may have some supplementary entertainment or fun activities.   There is also a nearby playground at NorthPoint Park.  Feel free to roam!

No group return, people gradually depart when they like.

There will be a portable restroom at the start point.   We are waiting on a permit from DCR before we can commit to placing a portable restroom at Paul Revere Park.   As a backup there is a restroom in the nearby Residence Inn by Marriott listed as a public restroom by the City of Boston.

Please contact us to volunteer to help with this event.
